RIP Thelma Reston

The actress Thelma Reston died on Thursday, aged 75, in Rio de Janeiro. Thelma was admitted to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, and recently it had undergone metastasis.

Born in Piracanjuba in Goiás, the actress has worked in theater, film and TV, excelling in many works based on the works by Nelson Rodrigues. In film, she debuted in 1964 in " Asfalto selvagem" and also stood out in " Os sete gatinhos," directed by Neville d'Almeida. In the film, she plays the fat mistress Aracy, the story had already staged at the theater in 1967 and again in 1998 and 1999, this time directed by Moacyr Góes. She also participated in " Terra em transe" (1967), by Glauber Rocha, among other classics of national cinema.

Thelma began working in theater in the 1960s, making her debut in the play " A Falecida". She was in other parts of Nelson Rodrigues, such as " Bonitinha, mas ordinária” (1962) and “Vestido de noiva” (1966).

Thelma joined the cast of " A opéra do malandro" by Chico Buarque, in 1977. Her last play in the theater was " A cantora careca" (2010). From 2002 to 2004, she appeared in the play " Quem vai ficar com a velha," in which she played a woman in menopause who no longer wanted to live with her aunt.

One of her first roles on TV was in the 1975 version of "Gabriela" as Arminda. In recent years, was also in the novelas " Escrito nas estrelas" (2010), " Negócio da China" (2009) and " A lua me disse" (2005).
